Description
The objective of this research was to know the English Students’ Difficulties in Developing Thesis Statement in Writing Argumentative Essay at Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The research design of this research used descriptive qualitative method. The data collected used written test based on Alice Oshima Ann Hogue (2006) theory. The result of this research, the students in 5th semester still had difficulties in developing thesis statement in writing argumentative essay. the students difficulties in developing are; 1). States the specific topic, 2). May list subtopic or subdivisions of the main topic or subtopic, 3). May indicate the pattern of organization of the essay, and 4). Write the thesis statement in the last sentence of the introductory paragraph. This research suggests for students to be able to anticipate this difficulty and for lecturers to be able to provide solutions to students about ways that can be done in developing thesis statements in writing argumentative essays. For the further researcher, it is hoped to conduct the research at different problems with different ways. Especially focus on the solution of development thesis statement at Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu.
