SCORING AT FIFTH SEMESTER STUDENT’S IN ENGLISH
EDUCATION PROGRAM OF MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF
BENGKULU

The objective of this research was to know the English students‟ essay
writing ability at Fifth Semester Students in English Education Program of
Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu in Academic Year 2020/2021. The
design of this research used the quantitative descriptive method. Instrument of the
research was used Analytic Scale for Rating Composition Task by Brown (2010),
The result of this research showed that English students at fifth semester students
did not have good ability in writing essay. Then, it is categorized in the adequate
to fair because fifth-semester students did not have good organization, logical
development of ideas, gramsmar, punctuation on spelling and mechanics, and
vocabulary in writing essay. The fact of this research is expected to be an
evaluation for students at fifth semester, it is suggested to students at the fifth
semesters to improve their abilities in writing essay and achieve the good category
in writing essay. For further researchers, the results of this study can be a
reference for the future researcher who conducts research about students‟ essay
writing in different side.
