Television media is the mass media that is most favored by the public. Television is used as an alternative for government or institutions to advertise social messages that are packaged in the form of public service advertisements. The promotion of public service advertisements is based on the concern for today's television world where there are many incidents that happen to children who are still under the supervision of parents due to too much watching television and following what they see from the shows presented. Like in the village of Air Muring, where there are still many children who can easily imitate what is presented on television, especially those that contain negative things. Departing from these problems, the formulation of the right problem for this research is, how is the role of public service advertisement display "The Importance of Accompanying Children in Watching Television on Trans7" in building education for parents. The purpose of this study was to find out the role of public service advertisement "The Importance of Accompanying Children in Watching Television on Trans7" in building education for parents who work as PNS teachers in the village of Air Muring.
This research is supported by applying the theory of selective influence by Wilson (1989) and Scudson (1984). The method in this study uses a qualitative descriptive method. This research was conducted in the village of Air Muring with 8 (eight) informants who fulfilled the informant selection criteria using purposive sampling technique. Data collection is done by observation, interviews, and documentation.
The results of this study indicate that the message conveyed in public service advertisements about child character education such as the advertisement "The Importance of Accompanying Children in Watching Television" in Trans7 was able to have a significant impact on parents (PNS teachers) who taught from morning to evening. The social message contained in this advertisement where parents have quite often seen this advert is able to remind and revive if accompanying the child, monitoring, supervising, and giving guidance on good viewing is indeed very important so that the child does not freely watch shows - impressions that do not match his age. That way, the child's mindset develops according to his age.
