Description
This research is a descriptive study and the method used in this research was qualitative. The aims of this research were to describe and find out the types of speech disfluencies produce by English students of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu in speaking English, to find out the dominant types of speech disfluencies done by students in speaking English, and to find out the causes of speech disfluencies in speaking English at English Education Study Program Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The data were collected through spoken test and interview, and analyzed by using precentage based on the theory. The results of this study indicated that English students still produce seven types of speech disfluencies when speaking English with the dominant types which was filled pause (66.10%). From that results, the causes of speech disfluencies occured because “they did not have a lot of vocabulary”. Based on the results of the analysis, the researcher gave suggestion for the speaking lecturer to focus more on drilling vocabulary before teaching speaking materials and for the students the researcher suggested them to exercise their English speaking both inside and outside of the classroom suggest to do more practice English speaking when outside the classroom.
