Description

This study was aimed to know the figurative language used by graduated students in writing Thesis Motto and to find out the dominant figurative language used by graduated students in writing Thesis Motto at English Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The design of this study is descriptive method. The object of this study is the Thesis that are written by students of English study program of Muhammadiyah Bengkulu who graduated on July 2020. There were 40 theses as the object of this research. Since this research is a descriptive study, the researcher used table of checklist to analyze the figurative language written by English students in their theses motto at English Education Program of UMB based on Griffiths (2006), there are kinds of figurative language expression such as Irony, Presuppositions, Metonymy, and Metaphor. There were two findings of this research; (1) The figurative language used by graduated students in writing Thesis Motto at English Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu were presupposition, metaphor, and irony; (2) The dominant figurative language used by graduated students in writing Thesis Motto at English Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu was presupposition.
