AN ANALYSIS OF PARAGRAPH DEVELOPMENT TYPES IN EDITORIAL TEXTS ON THE JAKARTA POST

The aimed of this study was to identificated some types of paragraph development used by editorial text found in the Jakarta Post published in 2019 and to found the types of paragraph development was dominantly used. It applied descriptive qualitative method. The population consisted of editorial texts which were published in 2019. There were 35 editorial texts with 286 paragraphs as sample that was taken by random sampling technique. The result show that there were 12 types of paragraph development in editorial texts of the Jakarta Post published in 2019. 59 paragraphs were development by narration, 12 paragraphs were development by description, 51 paragraphs were development by detail, 30 paragraphs were development by process, 8 paragraphs were development by analogy, 2 paragraphs were development by definition, 26 paragraphs were development by comparison and contrast, 6 paragraphs were development by classification, 28 paragraphs were development by mixture, 23 paragraphs were development by cause and effect, 16 paragraphs were development by example, and 25 paragraphs were development by statistic. Then, the editorial texts of the Jakarta Post was dominantly used narration in developed of paragraphs.
