Description

The objective of this research was to know what are motivation and language learning strategies used by English students in learning productive skills at English education at Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The research design of this research used descriptive qualitative method. The data collected used questionnaires based on theory from, first motivation of speaking questionnaire by Theory of speaking Motivation Speaking Motivation Scale (SMS) adopted from Yesilyurt (2008) and Noels (2001),second writing motivation from Theory of writing motivation by Ashley Rayne Payne and language learning strategies used by Theory of strategy of learning speaking and writing by LLSQ from Bambang Setiyadi. The results of this study, students in semester 4 have High motivation in learning to speaking and writing (productive skills) which is supported by the strategies they use in learning to speak and write. The biggest factor is 1. factor of their parents has the most motivation great to boast of their parents that they can speaking and writing in English Language , 2. Get rewards and recognition from others, 3. want to get a good job and a happiness life. This research can help see that students in semester 4 have a high motivation in learning. It is suggested to the next researchers so that they can see the comparisons in semester 4 whether they have High learning motivation and strategy in learning productive skills.
