ABSTRACT
The objective of this research was to find out English students way in formulating research question in Research Proposal at English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The research design of this research used descriptive method. The instrument of this research was questionnaire about steps in formulating research question based on Mason University Writing Center (2018) theory. The result of this research, the researcher found from six steps of formulating research question only three steps used by students in writing research question, they are: Choose an interesting general topic, Do some preliminary research on your general topic and Begin your research. No one students used all of steps. Based on the result above, the researcher give suggestion for English Students: When writing research proposal, the students must focus in write good research question because research question is the core of the research and become measurement that the research is good or not. To write good research question the students can follow the steps of formulating research question. So, the research question can be clear, specific and related with the topic.
