Description

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui strategi membaca aktif
dan strategi membaca aktif dominan yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa bahasa
Inggris pada membaca menengah semester II di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa
Inggris Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu. Metode penelitian ini adalah
deskriptif kualitatif. Instrumen penelitian berupa kuisioner yang didasarkan pada
teori Harvey & Gouvis (2007). Hasil penelitian, dari 23 strategi menurut (Harvey
& Gouvis, 2007) mahasiswa semester dua memilih 13 strategi membaca
pemahaman di kelas membaca menengah. Yaitu: Adjusting Reading Rate,
Connecting, Determining Imfortance, Reference Consulting, Evaluation, Prior
Knowledge, Monitor Comprehension, Reading On, Re-Reading, Symrhesizing,
Questioning, Summarizing, Visualizing. Dan dari 13 strategi yang dipilih siswa
aktif membaca, strategi yang dominan digunakan siswa berdasarkan persentase
adalah menyesuaikan kecepatan membaca (97.06%). Berdasarkan hasil di atas,
peneliti menyarankan siswa untuk menggunakan 10 strategi lain yang belum
dipilih oleh siswa.
