Description

The objective of this research was to investigate students’ difficulties in designing lesson plan using scientific approach in Microteaching Classes at English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. This research designed by using qualitative research which employed descriptive method as procedure to get descriptive data. The instruments used in this research were the observation form of lesson plan analysis based on Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (2013) and interview guide which provided the list of questions related to the students’ difficulties as well as observed in the observation form. The results showed that students’ difficulties in designing lesson plan using scientific approach in microteaching classes at English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu were: (1) In the second stage, namely questioning (M2). In this section, teachers are expected to direct the students in asking some questions about the information that have not been understood from what is observed. But, it was seen that there was an inability in creating an active classroom situation makes it difficult for the English students to design this second stage of scientific approach; (2) In the third stage, namely associating (M3), where the teachers are supposed to guide the students in processing the collected information. Due to there was the lack of inability to harmonize the differ level of students’ capability, therefore the English students found the difficulties to develop this stage; (3) In the final stage, namely networking (M5). In here, the teachers are supposed to guide the students in presenting the results and make the conclusion. However, the English students found it difficult to design this stage since there was in an inability to manage time allocation for teaching and learning process. Based on the results, this research presents following suggestions: (1) English students should learn more about how to design lesson plan using scientific approach, especially in the stage of questioning (M2), associating (M3), and networking (M5); (2) The lecturers are expected to do further socialization toward the designing lesson plan using scientific approach; (3) The next researcher are expected to conduct the next research on the designing lesson plan using Problem-based Learning (PBL), Project-based Learning (PjBL), and Discovery/Inquiry Learning model in scientific approach.
