STUDENTS ABILITY IN UNDERSTANDING COMPLEX SENTENCES AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF BENGKULU

The objective of this research was to found out students’ ability in understanding complex sentences using adverb clause at English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The design of this research used descriptive qualitative method. The data collect of this research used complex sentence test about adverb clause adopted from Azar. The research found that, the third semester students of the English Study Program Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu had low ability in identifying complex sentence using adverb clauses. It’s because the students still lack of understanding in complex sentence using adverb clause. in complex sentence. Based on the result above, the researcher give suggestion for lecturer and students. 1) for the lecturer, they can design learning and teaching activities better than before and give students more exercises about complex sentences. 2) for the students, they must study hard to increase students ability about complex sentence especially adverb clauses with more practice on complex sentences exercises.
