Description

The objective of this research was to find out and describe the rhetorical moves used in writing introduction section thesis by English studentsof Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu who graduated in October‟s 2019. The research design used descriptive qualitative method. To answer the research question the researcher use theory John Swales (1990) about moves and steps in introduction section. The result of thisresearch foundintroduction section categorized unqualified in used rhetorical moves, becausethe overall introduction section used Move 1 Establishing a territory in step 1, step 2, step 3; Move 2 Establishing a niche in step 1band step 1d; and Move 3 Occupiying a nichein step 1a, step 1band step 2but each introduction section didn‟t use qualified steps. Based on the result,this research suggest the students must use rhetorical move in introduction section in complete, socan arranged introduction in well and easy to understand by the reader.
